      Synopsis: Mangroves – The Blue Carbon Fringe

       

      This module introduces participants to the characteristics and ecological importance of mangrove forests as an important coastal ecosystem in Malaysia. Participants will learn the key characteristics of mangrove forests and understand their ecosystem functions, including their roles in coastal protection, biodiversity conservation, carbon storage, and support for coastal communities.

      The module also introduces the basic principles of mangrove forest management to ensure that these ecosystems remain healthy and continue to provide important benefits. Participants will explore basic approaches to mangrove management and conservation, focusing on sustainable resource use and protecting coastal ecosystems. By the end of the module, participants will be able to explain the key characteristics and functions of mangrove forests and describe basic approaches to their sustainable management and conservation.
