    WELCOME AND GREETINGS!

    Good day and welcome to the second course. We are delighted to have you join us as we explore the questionnaire development process, the identification of questionnaire items, and questionnaire distributions and responses. 

    Throughout the course, participants will be guided through the key stages of questionnaire development, from creating quality questionnaire items to identifying suitable item sources and managing questionnaire distribution and responses. Participants will learn how to design clear and meaningful questionnaire items, evaluate and adapt items from existing instruments, and select appropriate methods for administering questionnaires and monitoring responses. Participants are expected to complete all learning activities and assessments in each module. Upon successful completion, participants will receive digital badges for each module and be awarded the Micro-Credential Certificate in Questionnaire Development.

    Synopsis

    Developing high-quality questionnaire items is a critical step in producing reliable and meaningful research data. This module introduces participants to the systematic process of questionnaire item development, including identifying appropriate item sources, constructing effective questions, and managing questionnaire distribution and responses. Through practical examples and guided learning activities, participants will gain the skills needed to design questionnaires that are aligned with research objectives and capable of generating accurate and useful data.

    Learning Outcomes:
    At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

    ·       Analyse the stages involved in the questionnaire development process and their role in producing high-quality research instruments.

    ·       Evaluate and select appropriate questionnaire items based on research objectives, target populations, and measurement requirements.

    ·       Apply effective questionnaire distribution and response management techniques to enhance data collection efficiency and response quality.

    MODULE 1: QUESTIONNAIRE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

    Synopsis Module
    This submodule introduces the key stages of questionnaire development. Participants will learn how to formulate research questions, design a structured questionnaire, develop effective questionnaire items, and prepare the instrument for administration. The submodule also covers questionnaire layout, respondent instructions, demographic information, ethical considerations, and translation procedures to ensure the questionnaire is clear, valid, and suitable for the target population.

    Learning Outcomes
    At the end of this submodule, participants will be able to:

    • Explain the key stages involved in the questionnaire development process, from formulating research questions to preparing the final questionnaire draft.
    • Construct questionnaire items and questionnaire structures that are clear, relevant, and aligned with research objectives and target respondents.
    • Apply appropriate questionnaire design, administration, and translation principles to enhance the quality and usability of research instruments.

    MODULE 2: IDENTIFICATIONS AND QUESTIONNAIRE ITEMS SOURCES

    Synopsis Module
    This submodule introduces the key stages of identifying the questionnaire items. Participants will learn how to develop new items, use existing items, or adapt the existing items into own study context. The submodule also covers technique on identifying appropriate instruments that are reliable to be used. 

    Learning Outcomes
    At the end of this submodule, participants will be able to:

    • Explain the technique in identifying appropriate instruments for the study.
    • Adapt questionnaire items using existing instruments based on own study context.
    • Strategise the questionnaire items arrangement in the new instrument.

    MODULE 3: QUESTIONNAIRE DISTRIBUTIONS AND RESPONSES

    Synopsis Module
    This submodule introduces the key stages and types of questionnaire items. Participants will learn how to identify various types of questionnaire items to suit their study context. The submodule also covers techniques for choosing the correct items, such as open-ended questions, Likert scales, ranking and checklist-type questions and multiple-choice questions.  

    Learning Outcomes
    At the end of this submodule, participants will be able to:

    • Explain the various types of questionnaire items exist.
    • Able to choose appropriate items in the questionnaire instruments.
    • Avoid mistakes while developing questionaire items.
